Mothman of Bellaire?

Have you ever found yourself in a situation and though....

What I thinking?!? Am I REALLY this stupid??? If I could go back in time by five minutes, I would NOT be doing *this*all over again!!!

This happens to me often, unfortunately.

Take, for instance, this morning....

It four degrees below zero and there I , wet hair from the shower and pajama clad, traipsing around in my pitch black back yard with the doggo waiting for him to go potty in the snow.

He had crouched down into a squat on the other side of the propane tank when I'd seen some movement from the corner of my eye.

Whipping my head around, I wasn't quite sure what I was expecting to see but I certainly didn't expect to see a big, dark object swoop out of the tree next to me and disappear into the darkness.

My life flashed before my eyes as I immediately started pondering in terror....

Were those red eyes?? Was that the mothman?? Is this the next Point Pleasant??

"Oh my God! Holy Shit, let's go inside!"

The doggo had seen it too and the two of us were off like lightning, headed to the front porch. We had just about made it to the door when all of a sudden we heard a hoot from somewhere off in the distance.

And that's when I tripped on my snow shovel, giving myself a tiny black eye when the handle flew back up and hit the bridge of my nose.

Eyes watering, heart pounding, scratching at the screen door....

The owl hooted again from his perch and I realized, it was the owl I'd seen fly from the tree, on his way to his next destination. I'd seen this owl before, I think, perched in a tree across the road one night when it was still summer.

I hurried back into the house, regardless, this chic wasn't going to be taking any chances. I've seen enough scary movies to know, it's always the characters who hang around to investigate that get killed off first.

I'll pass on that!

Happy Friday!

I just love reading your blog it does bring me joy. As I've told you before you make me laugh and I think you should be writing a book or I wonder how you would be at stand up comedy. I do the very same thing that you do frequently I even talk to myself. I did like Paul's response because I didn't know that about owls. But I bet your laughing bout it now even though it's probably in the back of your mind.

Owls actually scare me a little.... They are so big and silent. I've only ever seen a couple in real life. It's a good thing they're nocturnal.

I thought it was the large chested cheerleader that got killed 1st. In my neighborhood that would have been a red tailed hawk. They hunt the pets in my neighborhood.
It's usually the large chested cheerleader who is stupid enough to do the investigating. LOL All boobs and no brains....

    You poor thing!
Stayed at ranch for an extended period recently. Youngest tells me in the morning that there are very strange noises late at night. There is something out there. So, I set up a game cam. (I knew what was creeping at night). But we had to put their mind at ease. Hope you don’t mind if I post the result.
True story.... The shovel started upright, leaned up against the porch rail. Totally out of the way. I managed to knock it over with my hand and while I was trying to catch it before it fell, the doggo yanked me forward with his leash and that was when I stepped on it. It had 3 Stooges routine written all over it...

It doesn't help that everything looks different at night, either. I was grabbing a bag of groceries out of the back of my car tonight when I thought I saw an animal off to the side of my house by the tree line.

It was a stump. LOL

I love owls but their sudden appearance like that out of the dark can be scary. Most of their feathers are really soft and helps make them impossible to hear when they fly. They will help keep the rodent population under control, but they're also capable of snacking on the bunnies....and even Tilly cat if she's out when they're hunting.
The Tilly Cat doesn't go outside, thankfully. I'm a little worried about my bunny, now, though! I wonder if that was why the owl was in my yard? I have noticed that I never see squirrels or chipmunks, anywhere. I'm guessing this explains that.

Owls 🦉 are huge, or the ones I've seen
    AND they're beautiful birds.
They're also, the fowl who bring good news and good luck to whoever they follow.
    Snow White, had an owl.
So did Harry, that Potter kid.
Bambi, and of course Winnie the Pooh's owl.
Try and make friends... they like to eat mice. 👍❗❗
I can certainly use some good news and good luck! I've heard him on other mornings when I've been out and about with the dog, it's usually still pretty dark outside so we stick close to the house and I walk him in the back yard. I'd commented before to friends that I've seen a ton of wildlife around here, but I never see chipmunks or squirrels... I'm guessing the owl is the reason why?
